Key West Permit Tournament – March Merkin Invitational
The March Merkin Invitational Permit Tournament returns to Key West and the Lower Keys from March 10-13, 2025. Hosted at Oceans Edge Resort & Marina (5950 Peninsular Ave., Key West, FL 33040), this prestigious catch and release event challenges anglers to pursue elite titles while supporting vital permit research and conservation through Bonefish & Tarpon trust.
On March 10, the tournament begins at 6:00 PM with a Captain’s Meeting at Tavern N Town, located at Beachside Marriott Hotel, accompanied by heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and the opening of a silent auction. March 11 sees boat reporting starting at 7:00 AM at Oceans Edge Resort & Marina, followed by lunch pick-up and an 8:00 AM departure for fishing from the north side of Boca Chica Bridge. Lines are cast at 4:30 PM, with light bites and drinks served, and scoring concludes at 5:30 PM. March 12 follows a similar schedule with boat reporting at 7:00 AM, lunch pick-up, and fishing commencing at 8:00 AM. Again, lines are cast at 4:30 PM, scoring closes at 5:30 PM, and a Mandatory Rules Meeting for all guides and anglers takes place at 5:45 PM. On March 13, boat reporting begins at 7:00 AM with fishing at 8:00 AM, and scoring wraps up at 5:30 PM. The event concludes with awards and an Awards Banquet at 6:00 PM.
